Connecting the coast in the Orihuela with the footbridge over the Rio Seco.
The new footbridge over the Rio Seco on the Coast of Orihuela.
The bridge was destroyed in the september storm in 2019.
This was a real flooding disaster in this region of Orihuela and Murcia.
Now the bridge is open since June.
This popular walkway connects the seafront promenades of Orihuela , Mil Palmeras and Torre de Horadada urbanisations.
Orihuela is a favorite place for many people at the Costa Blanca.
The beautiful beaches , the Zenia shopping boulevard, the nice weather and the nearby azul Mediterranean Sea .
Connecting the coast in the Orihuela
The footbridge is made of wood. On a single beam.
With nearly 40 meters of length and 4 meters wide.
Most of the wood is from the factory in Asturias.
Asturias a region at the other side of Spain. More specific in the north of Spain.
It mades his travel on the back of one lorry. With the smaller section of the bridge on the another truck.
It was really a special travel for this convoy .
The travel took 5 days .
Arrived in Mil Palmeras is has been assembled and installed.
But the whole project was delayed by the Corona pandemie.
Also problems with the authorities and the town hall.
So the first idee was to put again an stone bridge at the central pillar.
The regional coast service preferred a more durable alternative.
So that in the future the water of the Rio Seco can go trough the dry river to the beach and the Mediterranean Sea .
The new walkway
Good to known : the new walkway has lights in the night. So is feel good to make a walk in the evening.
Furthermore the footbridge has wooden trusses in a arch form.
Without intermediate pillars.
So this is to improve the river’s drainage .
When there is one again a heavy storm or rain fall at the coast the water of the Rio Seco can pass easily.
So the water coast departement and the Segura River are glad with this beautiful solution
